Indonesian Coffee Exports Increase 37 Percent, Ministry of Trade Says There Are Still Challenges

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Indonesia managed to record coffee exports from January to May 2022 reaching US$394 million, an increase of 37 percent compared to the same period the previous year. The value of Indonesia’s coffee exports (HS 0901) to the world in 2021 will reach US$851 million and Indonesia occupies the 13th position as a coffee exporting country to the world. most of Indonesia’s coffee export destination countries include the United States, Egypt, Japan, Spain, and Malaysia Deputy Trade Minister Jerry Sambuaga said Indonesia had a great opportunity to expand its influence in the global coffee market if the unique boom that hindered expansion could be overcome. Standardization of practices, technical requirements, and product specifications is increasingly important in global trade.

The Ministry of Trade continues to encourage coffee exports through collaboration with coffee producer groups to increase export capacity with a combination of speakers, face-to-face and daring training, promoting Indonesian SME exporters and their products to potential buyers, business meetings, and participation in international trade shows. “The Ministry of Trade is ready to assist Indonesian coffee farmers regarding the problem of pesticide residues which has hampered Indonesian coffee exports to Europe,” said Jerry Jerry also expressed his appreciation to the National Support for Local Investment Climate/ National Support for Enhancing Local and Regional Economic Development (NSLIC/NSELRED) as the core project of an ongoing partnership between the Governments of Indonesia and Canada which has existed since 2016.
