Sweet Run! RI Exports 3,000 Tons of Robusta Coffee to Egypt

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesian coffee products are selling well overseas. Indonesia released its first coffee export to Egypt in 2022 worth IDR 3.5 billion. The export release of this robusta coffee type was carried out on Sunday (30/1) at the Coffee Warehouse in Lampung, South Sumatra.
The coffee exports were carried out in two shipments, namely six containers and the next week in six containers. Robusta coffee exports generate a total contract of up to 3,000 tons in 2022.

“The release of this coffee export is a form of synergy between various parties, including the central and regional governments, BUMN, business players, and related stakeholders. The aim is to increase the performance of Indonesian coffee exports to Egypt as well as an effort to improve the welfare and economy of Indonesian coffee farmers,” said Director General of National Export Development Didi Sumedi.

Indonesia needs to take advantage of the advantages and potential of coffee products as a driving force in increasing the performance of Indonesian coffee exports to export destination countries. Especially because Indonesia as a country has 35 types of copies of Geographical Indications (GI) and is registered at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Based on BPS data, Indonesia’s coffee export performance in the January-November 2021 period was recorded at US$757.41 million, an increase of 2.73 percent compared to the same period in 2020 which amounted to US$737.27 million. “To increase the competitiveness of Indonesian coffee export products, the Ministry of Trade has carried out various promotional efforts including capacity building for export business actors, product development, branding promotions, export training, export market information, business matching, and various other programs that support export business actors,” said Director of Export Product Development Miftah Farid.
